Not. Today. Satan.

Not. Today. Satan. These aren’t just lyrics to a song, or a “quote” on a cute t-shirt. This is what the Child of God has the authority to say to Satan.

Authority (noun) – the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.

As children of God, we have been given authority over the enemy of our souls, Satan. Jesus said in Luke 10:19 that He has given us authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall harm us.

The enemy doesn’t have authority over Jesus. Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:28).  Satan is powerful, sure. We cannot in our strength take him on. He’s spirit. We are natural beings. BUT, Jesus did say we do have authority over ALL his power. We have authority over him.

Additionally, we also have been seated with God in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). Ponder on that for a moment. We are seated with Him in heavenly places. So when we declare the Word of God against the enemy, it is from a heavenly position. One in the spirit, not the flesh.

If only we remember that when the enemy comes against us and those we love. The enemy doesn’t bow to any other name but the name of Jesus. Jesus. Demons tremble at the name of Jesus. Satan has to submit to the name of Jesus.

I’m hoping you’re beginning to feel encouraged and strengthened in the Lord. We do not have to allow the enemy to snicker in our faces, taunt us or irritate us. He can’t just steal our peace, our joy, our health, finances, our families, etc. He cannot. No way.

Again, we have authority in Christ (Luke 10:19), we are seated in heavenly places in Him (Ephesians 2:6), those who are with us are more than those who are with them (2 Kings 6:16) – we have a heavenly army on our side, and if God be for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:34)? Therefore we can stand up against him confidently knowing God is with us and goes before us in battle.

Sometimes we just have to tell Satan “get behind me!” (Matthew 16:23). So, test the spirit (1 John 4:1), and if it’s demonic, bind it (Mark 3:27), remind it of the word of God (Matthew 4:4-10) and cast it down in Jesus name.

Know this – if you are in right standing with God, opposition will come. If you are doing what you are called to do, the enemy will get upset and try to stir trouble against you but remember the authority you have against him. It’s not hard really; we can make it hard because we don’t like to talk about it. No, we should never give the devil glory but we also cannot pretend he doesn’t exist and that he isn’t at work to destroy us because he is. We can’t wish him away. He won’t just disappear. We must fight this battle in the spirit. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).

We are reminded in God’s word to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from us (James 4:7). Even if for a little while, he has no choice but to leave us alone.

However, he won’t be gone for long so stay alert. Stay vigilant because he doesn’t rest. He roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Some bible versions say he looks for “anyone”. He’s looking for someone to destroy so we must resist him, stay firm in the faith know other believers are also going through suffering (1 Peter 5:8-9).

Like it or not, if you’re a bible reading, praying and interceding, stomping on the serpent’s head, obedient believer; he’s watching you. But fear not! There is great news! You’re are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37), he’s already defeated, Jesus has already interceded for you (Romans 8:34) and you already have the victory in the name of Jesus! Rejoice! “The Lord will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will march out against you from one direction but flee from you in seven directions.” Deuteronomy 28:7 Praise God!

So do not fear the dark forces that come against you for God did not give you a spirit of fear but of power, love and of a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7). Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole Armor of God and take your position (Ephesians 6). The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). You have the greatest weapon. The Sword of the Spirit of God – it is sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow (Hebrews 4:12).

Be watchful and test the spirits then stand firm in Jesus. Remember that greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). You’ve got this in the name of Jesus. Stand firm.
