Wait For The Promise

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.” Psalm 130:5

Have you ever had your boss tell you that because of your dedication and hard work you’d be receiving a bonus and an increase in salary? The only thing is that you had to wait approximately six months for the bonus/increase because it’s end of year and it won’t take effect till Spring. So, the key now is that you have to wait patiently…… Wait for the bonus and raise. Maybe you thought to yourself how you could really use it……now.

What do you do? Do you go searching for another job which offers you everything you currently have with an increase in salary now? If offered a new job, do you accept or wait for your bonus/raise to take effect in several months?

Scripture shows us what happens when people went ahead of God’s timing. There is war between nations still taking place because of not waiting on God’s timing (Genesis 16). Sometimes it’s like that for those who are waiting on God for a promise He’s made. God has already declared His word, made a promise because of our obedience and all we have to do is wait. Wait for Him to release the promise. Maybe in the waiting, He’s teaching us something valuable we’ll need to learn so that we are better prepared for that promise. But sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and ahead of His timing which can bring great consequence. Some that He never intended us to face.

We’ll receive the promise….eventually but the truth remains… if only we would have waited on God’s timing.

Why not just……wait? Why rush? Did we even desire the promise as much before He told us it was coming? Chances are, no but because God said it, suddenly, we want it that much more.

Wait on the promise. It’s coming. Your responsibility is to be ready. Be positioned. Stay focused. Stay the course. Do what God has told you to do. Walk firmly in His precepts. Stay firmly rooted in His word. Remain prayerful and before you know it, you’ll be ready and you’ll be thankful you didn’t go in search of the promise, leading to a detour.

God is good and He does give us the desires of our hearts but more importantly, He desires that we seek after Him and not after what He has for us.

Will you wait or try it your way?
