“But solid food belongs to those who are mature, for those who through practice have powers of discernment that are trained to distinguish good from evil.”
We are living in days where the enemy is running rampant to bring division, discord and destroy the children of God. Spiritual warfare is on the rise. Discernment isn’t what someone tells us, it’s what the Holy Spirit reveals to those who spend time in the presence of God and in His Word. Discernment is so vital for a child of God because it allows us to identify and recognize what is at work in an atmosphere (spiritual speaking), in a conversation that is taking place, even with a person or people.
The more we spend time with the Lord, the more He sharpens our discernment. We need to be able to identify what spirit is at work so that we can come against it when we encounter it. As children of God, He shows what is at work in the spiritual realm so that we can pray because when we pray and intercede, we go to war against what ever forces of darkness are moving. Sometimes the battle isn’t ours but God calls us to stand in the gap for others.
When we accepted Christ as Savior and became a child of God, we enlisted in an army. The army of God. The enemy automatically waged war against us. Spiritual war. The war doesn’t cease because we’re unprepared. Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us all about this battle and that it isn’t against flesh and blood. It’s spiritual. Your family, friend, brother or sister in Christ isn’t fighting against you. Something is at work to divide the children of God, divide homes, families and the body of Christ and we need to be able to identify it, expose it and pray against it.
The battle is real and it’s waging against the children of God. Not to mention the enemy is in constant pursuit of the souls that don’t know Christ as Savior and those who have drifted away. May we ask the Lord to sharpen our discernment and may we put on the Armor of God and be ready at all times.
