“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”” Matthew 16:13-16
Jesus wasn’t so concerned about who others said He was. He wanted to know Who His followers said He was. To them, He was the Christ, Son of the living God.
The Holy Spirit asked me this question the other day. Sure, I’ve read this passage before but this time the question came directly from Him. “Who do you say that I am?” He wanted to know who He was to me. Was He all that I openly and boldly profess He is? I so was not expecting that! So, I gathered myself and I began to tell Him Who He is for me. He then led me to go to scripture and read every coinciding passage then highlight each one to declare Him accordingly. So that in moments when I forget, in moments when I let my natural mind overwhelm me, The Lord is reminding me to REMEMBER Who I have said He is to me. As I need Him to be, He will respond.
So, Who is He to me? He is my Best Friend (Proverbs 18:24), my Provider (Genesis 22:8,13-14), my Abba, Father (Galatians 4:6), my Husband (Hosea 2:16), my Strength (Psalm 28:8), my Portion (Psalm 119:57), my Healer (Psalm 147:3, Isaiah 53:5), my Anchor (Hebrews 6:19), my Refuge/Defense (Psalm94:22, Psalm 62:2), my Peace (Judges 6:24), my Safe Place (Psalm 91:4), my Hiding Place/Shield (Psalm 119:114), my Fortress/Deliverer (2 Samuel 22:2), the Rock of my salvation (2 Samuel 22:47), my Salvation (Isaiah 12:2, my Creator (Genesis 1:26, Isaiah 40:28), my Redeemer (Job 19:25, Isaiah 47:4). This is just to name a few. He is my everything!
So now, I challenge you to ponder on this very question He wants me to share with you. Who do YOU say that He is? He’s waiting to hear you let Him know Who He is to you. Talk to Him. God bless you!
