Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. Deuteronomy 4:39
When I first moved to Florida, my son and I lived apart for two years. Those were the longest two years of my life. I felt like a part of me was missing when I didn’t have my son. When I came back to the Lord, He began to deal with me. One thing He showed me was that I put my son before Him. He reminded me of words I often said, “if anything ever happened to my son, I wouldn’t want to live.” Or “My son is my life.” And this was in the absolute literal sense. Without my son, I was lost. The Lord told me “You have placed the son I gave you before me. He has become your god.” He became my “idol” I understood then that God allowed the season of two years for us to be apart because God needed to show me that while He blessed me with my son, I needed to learn to live without him. He wasn’t God. He didn’t hold my salvation. He couldn’t comfort me. He couldn’t answer my prayers. He couldn’t satisfy my desire for unconditional love. He was not nor could he ever be God. He was my son. Given to me by God to love, nurture, train him up in the ways of the Lord but never to place him before the very One Who gave him to me. He was my gift. Not my God. I had to also learn how NOT to live without the One true living God.
It wasn’t until God spoke to me that Sunday at church many years ago; that the scales fell off my eyes. It was then that I repented and it was then that I decided to love my son, entrust him into God’s hands and let GOD reign in my heart as Lord. Not my son. After all, how could I hold before God the blessing HE gave me? My son wasn’t given to me to worship or esteem above God but he was placed in my care to be a good steward of the gift of life.
Modern day idolatry is much more than worshipping physical lifeless idols. Anything, absolutely anything placed before God, is an idol. I was sitting alone in my quiet time with the Lord a few weekends ago when He showed me the image of a statue, half man/half animal; sitting on a throne and The Lord told me that many are establishing a throne for idols in their hearts. Their hearts are turning away from the One true living God and walls are being erected as worship is being poured out to these idols. Idols may be birthed out of admiration, out of pain and suffering, out of fear. The fear of losing something or someone. For me, it was the possibility of losing my son in more ways than one. He became my god.
With certainty I tell you that there is only ONE true God. His name is The I AM. The Alpha and Omega; the Beginning and the End. He is the Star of David, the Lily of The Valley. He is The Lion of the Tribe of Judah. The Healing Balm of Gilead. He is the Good Shepard. He is the Healer, the Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is the Lord of Hosts; the God of war. The God of peace. He is Yeshua, He is Yahweh. He is the One Who will judge the nations; the One that has defeated death, hell and the grave. He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is Salvation for all those who accept His Son. He is the One that shed His blood on that old rugged cross. He is the Creator of all things living. He is the One that breathed life into Adam and made Eve from the rib of man. He is the One Who’s Spirit hovered over the waters in the beginning of time, the One that brought order to chaos; He is Elohim. He is alive today and forever more. He is the One that will come back and defeat all evil in the battle of Armageddon and He is coming back to rule and reign for all eternity. He alone lives, He alone sees, He alone protects what’s His; He is the One that grieves when we grieve and He alone gave it all for you and me for us to worship HIM in spirit and in truth, not that which He’s given to us or has allowed us to have.
Let’s put God back in His rightful place as King of our hearts and tear down any idols erected in His place. He alone is God. He alone is seated on the throne. He is the One Who sits on the mercy seat. He alone is worthy of all praise and honor. May all that we do, be done for the glory of His name. May God alone be lifted high.
